Top 5: Spring Fragrances

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

I don’t know about you, but I’m in need of some fresh, spring fragrances. I have my old standbys that I love, but I’m in the mood for something new. For me, a new scent is a must for spring, just like a new swimsuit and a new pair of sandals (or two)!

I’ve raided all the perfume counters and I’ve come up with a few favorites. You can find my top 5 picks along with others at beso.com.

3 Easy Ways To Freshen Up Your Makeup Right Now

Everyday around 3 or 4 o’ clock in the afternoon, my face starts to look and feel like it could use a little freshening up. I desperately need a quick pick-me-up to help me get through the day but with a few more hours to go before I can free myself from the daily grind, I need something that requires practically zero effort. The fix? I reach for my makeup bag that holds 3 essential beauty Secret Weapons. Here are 3 tried and true quick fixes to a fresher face in a snap!

Oil Blotting Sheets
Every makeup bag needs a handy packet of oil blotting sheets to pick up that layer of oil and grime that has built up throughout the day. Try one of Mai Couture’s Blotting Papiers to give your face a fresh revitalizing glow.

Mai Couture Blush Papier, $28

Peachy Lip Gloss
Lip gloss will almost always do the trick when it comes to brightening up your face. Give your lips a punch of color in a sheer peachy pink shade like Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Nude Lustre.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Nude Lustre, $6.99

Facial Spray
For a face deprived of moisture, replenishing with a refreshing spritz of a facial spray will work wonders. Choose one with packed with antioxidants and minerals like Evian Mineral Water spray to keep you looking fresh throughout the day.

Evian Mineral Water, $10

Marvelous Mascaras

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

mascaraHave I mentioned my make-up addiction? But even with my need for Girlie Rehab, there are days I sometimes leave the house with next to no makeup on. The three beauty items I never do without? Bronzer, lip gloss (preferably plumping) and mascara.

I’ll admit that I’m already pretty blessed with what my momma gave me. I have thick, long, lush lashes (sincere apologizes for sounding like a make-up commercial) – but that doesn’t mean I don’t like to play up one of my best features.

And these are the mascaras I love:

estee lauder projectionist

Estee Lauder Projectionist: Mentioned in Bazaar magazine (August 2007 issue, pg. 109), this mascara coats my lashes without clumping, and gives me amazing length while still maintaining a pretty decent semblance of natural-ness. This is my current fave. Love it.

lash injection

Too Faced Lash Injection: Slightly more dramatic than Projectionist, this is a good one for going out. It delivers slightly more extension and thickness (sincere apologizes for sounding like a ED commercial) than the Estee Lauder product, giving me Disney-worthy doe-eyes. My water-proof version stays on all night without flaking. Win!

shu uemuraShu Uemura Basic Black: An Allure’s Best winner, this is my go-to when I want to go au naturel – or at least look like I am. This mascara gives me a more demure, understated look while still coating every lash. The no muss, no fuss, easy-going look does come at a cost – this product is slightly under $30 – but this is the only mascara I’ve used that women have asked me, directly, what kind of mascara I’m wearing. And that’s a pretty big deal.

voluminousL’Oreal Voluminous: To prove that you don’t have to pay out the nose to get beautiful eyes, I’m throwing in this classic. High-quality, road-tested, well-worn and extensively proven, you just can’t go wrong with L’Oreal’s Volumious mascara. The fact that it’s under $10 should add a little extra sparkle to your peepers.

metallic make-up trend, ladylux

Artists of all kinds went mad over shimmer last fall while showing the S/S 2010 runway collections. We saw this trend rising in fashion, beauty, footwear and even accessories. However, we love the varying luminous effects this heavy metal trend lends the beauty industry. Below are some of our favorite products to help you achieve these gorgeous accent trends to enhance your already flawless face!

3 Ways To Get Longer, Lusher Lashes

Friday, May 14th, 2010
Get crazy long lashes

Get crazy long lashes

Love the look of lengthy, lustrous eyelashes – but cursed with little ones? Now, no one has to know. Here are three ways to disguise your eyes; products that transform itty-bitty eyelashes into dense and dreamy showstoppers:

"Lashes to die for"

"Lashes to die for"

If you’re ready to make a serious commitment, both to grow your lashes and shrink your wallet (by $125), Peter Thomas Roth makes “Lashes to Die For“, an effective way to condition and lengthen the lashes you already have. This product nourishes your eyelashes to stimulate growth over several weeks. It takes awhile to get there, but the end result is that – rain or shine – these babies will be there to give you drop-dead, doe-eyed, Disney Princess-like lashes that won’t wash off. Very available on beso.

Mascara primers coat the lashes in a polymer to extend and thicken to lengths you never thought possible. After applying a coat (or two or three – they’re usually buildable), simply add your favorite mascara on top. Voila! Lovely, lengthy, wow-worthy eyelashes that can look as demure or dramatic as you choose.

Fake but fabulous

Fake but fabulous

Tried and true and now with more options than ever before! False eyelashes have been around forever, but their popularity is on an upswing. Companies like MAC, Shu Uemura and Make Up For Ever are even adding extra fun to their falsies with touches like feathers, sparkle and color. A fab idea for your holiday parties, every girl should have a few pairs on hand.
