Aviator Fashion

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

If you haven’t seen the movie Top Gun lately, you may want to watch it again for some fashion inspiration. A big trend coming back is the aviator look. Aviator sunglasses have always been stylish, but they’ve made a huge comeback along with other aviator inspired fashions like the bomber jacket and flight vest. Both of which look hot with a great pair of jeans and mid-calf boots.

This has to be one of my favorite trends this season. Very cool look and you won’t break the bank. You can find these wrap bracelets at just about any store right now in a variety of colors and materials. I especially like to wear these bracelets to liven up a daytime look of shorts and a tee, but with all the different styles, you can find these to suit just about any outfit.

Military Chic?

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Marc Jacobs Damask Ruffle Jacket – Olive, $2,200 at Saks.com
I never thought I’d utter the two words ‘military’ and ‘chic’ in the same sentence…….but the military look has evolved and designers have created some fresh military pieces – aviator and army inspired. No camo here, instead we’re seeing stylish, subtle prints, fitted jackets and cool combats. Functionality is foremost with understated, clean looks. The color of choice is army green followed by classic navy. Here are a few of my favorite military pieces.

Fun

So here’s the thing: I have started to wonder if the good folks at Coach are suffering from multiple personality disorder. I mean… Are they doing Dooney and Bourke (ok, could be the other way around), are they channeling Betsey Johnson? Or are they trying to create their own thing, altogether?

BUT. Crazy or not, I’m really digging the new designs for Holiday ’09. For those into branded products, their Inlaid C Brooke bags are fab. The Kristin Collection makes me swoon. And to tell you the truth, I’m seriously coveting the Patent Large Spotlight.

BUT.

As with anything, you take the good with the bad. And some of it is bad. Very, very bad. So it’s confusing.

BUT.

See for yourself and make up your own mind. And while you’re at it, take advantage of some of the great deals on Coach running right now on beso. You’d be crazy not to.

Window-shopping at Etsy, (yes, again) I came across these felt jewels at Vaivanat’s shop. Classy and bold women’s accessories handmade from felt wool. The Elegant Black and White Ardea Dahlia Felt Flower Brooch can be worn with a jacket, cardigan or blouse and the Sea Buckthorn Orange Berries Felt Necklace will adorn any low cut top or dress. Pieces come in a multitude of colors and designs and are all unique and numbered.

Spring is here and lust, I mean love, is in the air. The skirts are out with the high heels and the boots and sweaters retired back to hibernation. Everyone is crawling out of their winter shells to smell the cherry blossoms and enjoy the longer days and… maybe even propose. If being romantic is not your forté and your lady is an authentic geek, then you might consider the Swarovski Crystal Engagement Ring with a USB Flash Drive . This curious ring design allows you to connect and share information with your beloved (and hopefully trustworthy) nerd bird.

Yorktown Road Tote and Purse

I am an official Yorktown Road fan. The materials are well chosen and the designs are simple and classy with a subtle modern twist. These soft-washed natural linen mini-zip purse and tote are very sweet with a thick and thin pleat touch and natural canvas lining.

If you need a bit more color, they also come in this rich golden yellow, deep orange and dark teal.

Raw Scarf

Recent unpredictable weather calls for a little thinking ahead. I have a weakness for scarves and you can always find one in my purse, but since one can never have enough accessories, I’m always on the look-out for a new neck jewel. Here’s a great raw scarf by Yorktown Road that I found this weekend while browsing through Etsy (my latest obsession). I like its asymmetrical shape and raw finish. It is made out of fulled, loosely woven wool, which gives it that ribbed texture and soft edges. Black thread is woven together with brown, creating a chic smoky matte black.

When it rains, it pours. And when it pours, you better be prepared. With this umbrella you are double prepared for the rain, as your autonomous water shield also acts as a stand. Simple. Pure. Practical. Some times it IS just black and white, even when it comes to umbrellas.
