Spring dress fever - Yohji Yamamoto

Gotta love Yohji for being so out there! Wait, there is a word for that: avant-garde. It was hard for me to choose only one of his dresses, if you can even call them that. They are more unique draped creations. I love his asymmetry, color combinations and the abundance of beautiful fabric. It’s wearable art, is what it truly is.

KateMoss + TopShop = AmishCatalog

Kate Moss

This is Kate Moss.
Little House on the Prarie Series
This is Kate Moss on drugs.
Greek Funeral Series
Any questions?

Yes, actually. Who is the ghost-designer behind this faux pas? Apparently someone who doesn’t observe Kate a whole lot. What’s wrong with this picture? Look at what Kate Moss wears and look at what she sells at TopShop with her name on it. Granted her fashion sense has been on a downward spiral since she’s been arm in arm with Jamie Hince of The Kills, aka “the worst dressed man in Britain“, but still. We all know that Kate Moss would rather die than be caught wearing these Little House on the Prairie or Greek funeral dresses. Sorry, Kate. I love you, but whatever your current drug of choice is, it’s not working for you.

Ode to Owens

Oh, where art thou Owens? We miss you. You have abandoned your urban jungle for greener pastures without looking back. Where are your asymmetric tops and gentle fabrics, your modern cuts and subtle tones? Paris gets you, I know, but so do your roots.

LA Fashion Week

jmary-silk-chiffon-dress.jpgjmary-silk-chiffon-dress-2.jpg

LA Fashion week kicks off tonight with a GenArt group show featuring JMary, Jesse Kamm and Le Sang Des Betes. I am most exited about the new JMary collection. Her jackets and dresses have great cuts and quality fabrics that make everyone look sophisticated and untouchable. The dress above is Marlena - black silk chiffon over nude silk georgette with pockets - one of my favorite pieces from her Spring 2008 collection.

Gary Harvey, my creative eco-hero

In the spirit of LA Fashion Week (that starts this Friday) and eco-friendly design, I present to you Gary Harvey. He is a London-based eco-couture designer who unveiled his first collection at the 07 London Fashion Week. The concept behind the 9 dresses presented at the show is to promote fashion design with a conscience and reinvent the perception of recycled clothing. Gary finds second-hand garments in thrift stores and infuses them with a new life and a statement. I impatiently await his next collection.

Red carpet queen

marion-cotillard-2.jpg

Classic Hollywood Glamour - Marion Cotillard gracefully shined in a Jean-Paul Gautier mermaid gown. Not too much or too little, but just radiant; beautiful neckline, discreet rectangular clutch, long necklace, wavy locks and a winning smile.
