Can you wear Horizontal Stripes in Plus Size?
I get asked a lot by plus size women about whether they should wear a certain trend or style. Although there are rare instances where I just don’t think a trend will translate to plus size, almost any look can be adapted for larger sizes.
This includes horizontal stripes, previously concerned a no-no for plus women. The common thinking is that stripes going across your body will make you look wider, and in some cases they absolutely will. But like any look, the trick is to pick out a version of it that will best flatter your body type.
For instance, apple shaped plus women are much heavier on top than on bottom. Take advantage of the narrow real estate in your hips and thighs by wearing a horizontal stripe skirt. It will create some width that you can use to balance out your top half.
If you’re lacking in the bust area, some stripes across your chest can add volume there. Similarly, stripes that wrap around an hourglass waist will show off the smallest part of your body. Just like any pattern, I don’t recommend wrapping stripes around your widest area, or cutting off at the top or bottom of your broadest part. But worn right, this look can be very cute, and will enable you to rock the nautical stripe look so popular this season!
